The NHS Commissioning Board has named Alex Abbott as its new chief technology officer.
Abbott joins the NHS Commissioning Board from NHS Connecting for Health, the government body responsible for overhauling the NHS’s computer systems. The agency runs the £13 billion National Programme for IT.
He was appointed as director of technical architecture when Connecting for Health was launched in 2005.
A board spokeswoman said in a statement: “Alex is a passionate believer in the transforming role of health informatics as an enabler to deliver efficiencies in the health sector, and this mission is central to his role at the NHS Commissioning Board Authority.”
