The Department of Health (DH) has announced a further £19 million to support social enterprises over the next year.
The DH said it would soon open applications for the funding, and announced three workshops
to help potential applicants in July.
Under the Open Public Services White Paper, the government aims to see more independent providers, including charitable social enterprises, run public services.
The dismantling of primary care trusts under the government's health reforms has increased the number of ‘spin-out’ social enterprises made up of former NHS staff.
