Christopher Baker named chairman of GSTS Pathology

The Serco-backed joint venture GSTS Pathology has named Christopher Baker as its independent chairman in a newly created role.

Baker joins the group with experience in both the public and private sectors, having been chairman of Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and a non-executive director of Park Group and Ai Claims Solutions.

GSTS Pathology’s chief executive, Richard Jones, commented: “This is a pivotal appointment to the board and I believe that Christopher brings a superb mix of skills and experience to work with me and the board to steer GSTS through the next phase of its development.”

Baker added: “GSTS has a hugely exciting opportunity to demonstrate how a public-private sector partnership can transform the delivery of a key healthcare service and support the NHS’s drive for efficiency. I am greatly looking forward to joining GSTS Pathology to support the delivery of this vision.”

GSTS Pathology is the largest independent pathology provider in the UK with around 1,000 employees.

The original partnership between Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Serco went live in 2009, with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust joining the joint venture in 2010.
