Commissioning for change - towards world class services

Private sector providers are now actively encouraged by government to participate in the provision of primary care and are currently bidding on £1.3 billion contracts for GP-led centres. By March 2009 PCTs must have completed the first cycle of the commissioning assurance framework to measure performance in terms of health outcomes, competences and governance. This conference examines how provider innovation can be achieved in service design and delivery. Expert speakers will address the knowledge needed to create an expert commissioner and the necessary actions to remove the barriers to market participation and make commissioning really work.

The introduction of world class commissioning is designed to raise procurement standards across the UK. This event explores the efficacy of these commissioning mechanisms and the outcome these changes have in terms of enabling patient choice and individualised healthcare. The programme also examines the successes and the lessons which can be learned for both commissioners and providers.
