Medical diagnostics firm Abingdon Health has teamed up with the University of Birmingham to launch a joint venture for the marketing and development of diagnostics.

Bioscience Ventures will focus on developing and marketing new diagnostic products for the healthcare sector and other industries.

The new initiative, which will be led by Abingdon executive chairman Dr Chris Hand, will look at developing diagnostic tools for conditions where "needs are not being met in the market", such as various cancers.

Bioscience Ventures will be based at Birmingham University’s campus, and will utilise intellectual property developed at the institution.

Dr Chris Hand said the joint venture would “allow us to bring important new diagnostic products to market”.

“There is a clear opportunity to create a new range of diagnostic products from the University’s deep knowledge in this important and growing market,” he added.
