International healthcare company Bupa has appointed Carlos Jaureguizar as chief executive of Bupa Global & UK (BGUK) with effect from 1 April, succeeding David Hynam who is leaving after seven years with the organisation.

Jaureguizar has been general manager of the Bupa Chile business since 2018. He joined Sanitas, Bupa’s business in Spain, in 2006 and was appointed strategy director and then chief financial officer of Bupa’s Europe and Latin America market unit.

Bupa group chief executive, Iñaki Ereño, said: Carlos’s experience in Spain and Chile will be invaluable and I know he will bring his passion for growth and digital transformation at this important time for the healthcare sector and for Bupa.

“Huge thanks to David for all he has contributed to Bupa in over seven years with the company, including five years as CEO of the Bupa global and UK market unit. I would particularly like to recognise his leadership of BGUK’s response to the pandemic and his personal and constant commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.

“Under David’s leadership we have expanded our market-leading insurance offer, especially in mental health and virtual GP, successfully integrated our extensive network of dental clinics and reshaped our businesses in aged care and retirement living. I’m delighted that while David will be moving onto new opportunities, he will continue to be involved with Bupa as a board director of GeoBlue, our joint venture in the US with some Blue Cross Blue Shield companies.”
