Urban Village Capital is planning a £8.5 million purpose-built care home development in Wigan, due to complete in April next year.
The Croft in the village of Bickershaw on the outskirts of the town has been developed by Urban Village Care – a sister company to Urban Village Capital, solely focused on building and expanding care homes across the UK.
The 0.75 acre development features 66 en suite rooms, with lounges, dining facilities, cinema, a hairdresser’s, relatives’ guest rooms, parking space and gardens. It also has assisted bathrooms, a nurse station and staff room. The development will be managed by a specialist senior living operator, which will be announced in the coming weeks.
Urban Village Care stated it is expanding its remit beyond the Midlands, with a number of other construction schemes currently in planning. Over the next two years, the company said it aims to develop more care homes and extra care schemes in partnership with medium sized providers with solid reputations and a local focus.
Urban Village Group chief executive Nick Sellman said: “Figures from the Office for National Statistics indicate that 18% of the population is aged 65 or over, of which almost a third of these people live alone. These figures, along with those from Age UK, show there is a real demand for high-quality care home facilities across the country and we can play a significant role in helping meet that demand, with developments like The Croft.
“We have many years of experience in delivering high-quality residential homes and have recruited an experienced care delivery team in order to facilitate this. Our care homes, which will be built at various locations across the country, have been carefully designed to ensure those who live there can enjoy a real quality of life and be part of an incredible community.”
